Abruzzo Open Days – Winter 2016

We are delighted to have been asked to participate in this first Abruzzo Open Day – Winter edition 2016.
In collaboration with the Santacroce hotel group, we propose a ‘Special Edition’ seasonal Cooking Experience right here in Sulmona.

Join us for a morning of fun & practical hands-on cooking, in the company of popular chefs Antonella & Nonna Dora, followed by a delicious lunch featuring local pumpkin speciality ‘Zucca Gialla di Sulmona’ (Sulmona yellow squash).

Pumpkins represented an important food source for Sulmonesi families in previous times and they were given the nickname of ‘cucucciari’.
They possess important health benefits and now, after years of being out of favour, they are being reintroduced into Sulmona’s restaurants and can be admired on the stalls of Piazza Garibaldi’s bi-weekly produce market.

In our class, you’ll learn some valuable techniques and a little bit about our culinary history too.
Suitable for experienced & amateur cooks alike and also for children aged 10 years and over.

Our special menu is as follows:

  • Abruzzese chitarrina pasta with chickpeas & yellow pumpkin
  • Pezze pasta with yellow pumpkin, saffron & guanciale
  • “Pallotte cacio e ova” with yellow pumpkin
  • Ciambelline cookies made with local Montelpulciano d’Abruzzo wine
  • “Pizzelle” sweet waffles made with mosto cotto

Your lunch will be accompanied by our choice of local wines.

All instruction will be in English.

Cost per person: € 45,00

Please get in touch with us at Welcome to Sulmona to make your booking – places are strictly limited!
