How to get to Sulmona
Sulmona’s nearest airport is at Pescara with flights to London’s Stansted, Barcelona, Oslo, Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels and Dusseldorf plus internal flights to Milan and Cagliari. Pescara airport is 50 minutes from Sulmona and you can connect either by bus or by train.
Further afield are the Rome airports of Ciampino (1hr 40 mins) & Fiumicino (2hrs), Ancona (2hrs 15 mins) and Bari (3hrs 15 mins) The new airport at L’Aquila has not yet published its timetable.
Sulmona is accessible via the A25 Rome to Pescara motorway- exit at Sulmona / Pratola Peligna. Rome is 2 hours away and Pescara just 50 minutes.
It is also reached via the SS17 which lead to Naples in one direction and L’Aquila in the other. Naples 2hrs 20 mins and L’Aquila 1 hr 15 mins.
Sulmona is an important communication node in the centre of Abruzzo and is easily accessed from Rome, Pescara and L’Aquila. Note that the railways station is a little way out of town and uphill towards the centro storico. On your arrival at the train station you may wish to consider calling a taxi or waiting for a bus.
