If you are a long-time follower of Welcome To Sulmona you will already know about Stuart Haines.  Author of the popular ‘Walking in Abruzzo‘ mountain guide book, we have also written about him here and here and here.

But what if you are only in town for a short while? What if you don’t have any appropriate walking clothes or boots with you? What if you only have an hour or two to spare? What if you have seniors and juniors in your group? Well Stuart has written his own walking tour of Sulmona just for you.

The route he has devised starts outside the wonderful Cathedral of San Panfilo at the northern end of town (free parking available) and follows a ‘plate of spaghetti’ route (his words, not ours) all over town, back and forth, up and down, under and over, via Porta Napoli at its southern-most tip to finish back at the Cathedral.

The walk takes about 2 hours but add on time for ice cream stops and souvenir shopping if you are not in a hurry.

There aren’t many cultural or historical references, you’ll need a proper guide book for those, but what it does is to show you a number of interesting and curious side streets and back routes that you might not find by yourselves.

For a limited time, until November 30th 2018, you can download this walking tour of Sulmona free of charge from Stuart’s Website Sulmona Valley Walks (usual price £2.99).

So off you go and enjoy Sulmona on foot. And don’t forget to take your camera!
